SHOP • BAGGU
Since founder Emily Sugihara launched Brooklyn-based Baggu in 2007, their Standard tote has become ubiquitous on the shoulders of those in the know from San Fran to Tokyo. She started by re-designing the humble shopping bag to create a substitute for plastic shopping bags and out popped a strong, nylon, reusable all-purpose tote that was reasonably priced and nice to look at. Baggu have got their ethical and sustainable credentials in the bag (so to speak), including a nylon-recycling program so your used bags can be returned for a discount on a new order. Their cotton bags are made from 65% recycled cotton from scraps recovered during the creation of other cotton products like t-shirts and socks that would otherwise end up in landfill. Their leather creations are produced in the USA in an ISO-14001 Certified Tannery which means it documents and manages its operations to minimise environmental impact. They even use environmentally responsible dyes that are fully absorbed by the fabric to minimise run off into waterways. And not to mention that humble nylon shopping bag holds up to 22kg - that’s strong enough to hold all your BAGuettes and BAGpipes, and emotional BAGgage.
